AT SECOND NATURE AT READS CREEK

“When we see land as a community to which we belong we may begin to use it with love and respect.”  Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac.

Second Nature at Reads Creek is committed to providing quality environmentally conscious products and services. We believe in taking a proactive approach in establishing an ecological balance and protecting biodiversity when controlling soil fertility and pest problems.

Not only is it safer for our environment, but also for our staff members and customers that handle plant material.

  • We use beneficial insect predators and microorganisms that help protect from insects and diseases.

  • We do not use neonicotinoids for insect control because of the concern that these pesticides may play a role in recent pollinator decline.  Neonicotinoids can be persistent in the environment, translocating to residues in pollen and nectar of treated plants, potentially affecting pollinators. (Effective February 10, 2017, the rusty patched bumblebee will be declared as an endangered bee species in the continental U.S. )

  • We also reuse all plastics as much as possible. We recycle plastic and cardboard, and compost.
