Fall garden clean up advice from the uw-extension office
3 things you can do this fall for better results in the spring
Mulch young plants - After a light frost but BEFORE the ground freezes, give beds a new layer of mulch to keep new plantings warm and to control water runoff in the spring.
Cleanout flower beds - Pull out annuals to get rid of snails and slugs that feed on them. Trim perennials to the ground, which sends the energy down to the roots for next year. And divide plants like hostas and daylilies every three to four years.
