Welcome to Second Nature at Reads Creek
Second Nature at Reads Creek is a destination garden center in the making. Set in the rural Driftless region of Southwestern Wisconsin, the nursery is nestled by sheltering hillsides and transversed by a meandering trout stream. The setting radiates a slow-down, take-in, look and linger atmosphere. The site has a decades’ long history of horticultural endeavors and are surrounded by established gardens and dotted with tobacco barns that lend an arcadian allure to the gift and hard goods areas. Our central arbor structures merge with these older buildings and create organized canopied sales areas under dappled shade.
With the vast collections of annual and perennial plants offered, it makes finding that elusive something special for your garden feel like a drifty pleasure-hunt, rather than plucking daisies from a field. (This is not your typical quick-stop, parking lot, rush-rush garden center). We encourage a wanderlust and languid approach exemplified by the expansive covered porch of the gift shop littered with expectant rocking chairs. This season we continue developing our central pond gardens essential to the very heart of the nursery, cultivating the notion that to enter a garden center is to enter into a garden. Find us just 7 miles south of Viroqua on Hwy 14/61.
